Hanging garden and bio-design

Φ Phi

φ Phi – November 2010 – Limited edition

Many tropical forests show a singular phenomenon : the colonization of the trees by a multitude of tiny plants known as “epiphytes”. The most beautiful hanging gardens are out there … in the canopy !

This bio-design creation combines a lamp and a window box to create an autonomous living plants curtain which can be hung in unexpected places.

 Phi combines two functions :

A lamp with LED lights hidden in a light and elegant spiral to the ground

A hanging garden with a nest plants curtains.

Cosmolithe

 Cosmolithe - August 2007 - length 120cm, weight 15Kg

Living sculpture or Tamagocchi, this creation, with its floating design, evokes the origin of life on Earth... or the future of humanity? Born of my research on selecting and growing ground mosses for cultivation in our habitats, Cosmolithe is a sculpture designed to support colonies of pioneer micro-flora (bryophytes), the stage for interactive territorial competition. The sculpture has a reserve, which, like groundwater tables, redistributes water through a very simple, ecological physics process called capillary action.

This creation is carried out on order in all dimensions and can be installed indoor or in a sheltered place for outdoor. Inside, the minimum brightness must be of 600 Lux. This level can be achieved with a natural light or with some additional artificial one which will highlight the night show. The average water autonomy is of one month. The Cosmolithe can be hung on a ceiling, the branch of a tree or can be fixed on a pedestal.
