Micro-vegetation

 The micro-vegetation- a second skin…

Who has not been impressed by the fragile layer of moss glittering in the mist of the morning?

After several years of research, the wish of mastering the cultivation of moss approached and has been fulfilled.

Today, we have in the workshop several varieties of pioneer moss half-land half aquatic, selected for their sophisticated texture and their good adaptation to an in-vitro cultivation. But each region has its own anthology of moss, algae and specific spores which can take roots and blossom on the ecosculpture-tableau.

A further control of the biotic parameters such as light, temperature, water, type of substrate allows us to offer a living and lasting scene in the indoor and outdoor spaces. We can carry out the micro-vegetation on a wire or several vertical lines, on a vertical or horizontal surface, of a volume (lettering, clothing, sculpture, fountain), each project requires a feasibility study.

Here are some steps of the rapid colonization of the pioneer vegetation on a new surface.

Initial seeding of a mix of moss with a greater part of “hépatiques”.

One week later, the development of Cyanophyceae algae (dark streaks) uptakes the nitrogen gas or nitrates present in the water

45 days later - combined development of the “hépatiques” and the symbiotic algae and creating a favourable first raw humus for higher plants.

Some months later – the surface completely covered and interactive competition between the algae, mosses, seeded ferns and spores, seeds sown by the wind. The tableau takes the form of a game of go with variable geometry. The struggle for territory takes place with its alliances and struggles. Evolution is constant and life is determined to carry on as long as water and light are available.
